I used to believe that all I needed was absolute freedom,
But now I know that no such thing exists
But in the bounds of this reality…

And these times and circumstances are never our ideals,
So we throw ourselves against the walls we cannot break
Until we learn we cannot win - within the chains of our lives
There’s only one freedom to be had:
The freedom to be glad in this madness.

Believe me, I’ve had my share of tears
And they’ve taught me far too much.
They call me the girl who doesn’t feel,
And I’m sorry I turned out so cold.
But I really meant it when I said that I missed you,
And I really meant it when I said that I loved you still,
And I do, I do…

And these times and circumstances are never our ideals,
So we throw ourselves against the walls we cannot break
Until we learn we cannot win - within the chains of our lives
There’s only one freedom to be had:
The freedom to be glad in this madness.

So I might as well sing a song inside this cell
Just to astound them as my dignity is falling,
And I might as well smile within this hell
Just to confuse them when they think my heart is drowning…

You ask me why I’m frustrated
When you’re staring at me with clouds in your eyes -
And sweet, sweet compliments
Don’t mean much coming from a blind man’s mouth.
See, already I’ve lost you
With my shrewd elucidation of this situation

“I think you’re over-analyzing”
You said as you were passing by –
But I didn’t see you look into me, no,
And I am deeper than you’ll ever go.

“Gotta go,” you say,
“You’re not gonna die yet anyway.
If you need me, call.”
But you never hear the words I say.

So I ponder your impressions in seclusion:
You are bleeding of deceptions,
You are reading off distortions in the clouds.

I slipped right through a point of view,
I slipped right through to see through you,
And all your arguments spoke eloquence –
I let your wisdom carry me.
I slip right through, I slip to you -

And your words inside me beat,
And I am free.

A shackled mouth; I’m afraid to speak.
I listened carefully to the ever-doubtful truths
This world would speak.
You questioned our reality,
Absorbing the doubts that have consumed me –

So in my heart I now am free.
Within me you will beat.

I teetered on the brink of choice
With your keen perceptions
As my own decisive voice I failed to find.
It wasn’t easy, you know
To let attachment go.
